I am a freshman college student at New Mexico State University. I am currently attending the school in order to receive my bachelor’s degree in Mechanical engineering. I decided to pursue mechanical engineering because I have always been interested in cars. More specifically, engines. I am greatly intrigued by the mechanical operations of a gas powered engine. Naturally, Mechanical engineering became the obvious choice for me to further pursue in school. However, I am also interested in non-engineering related subjects. I have always been very interested in snowboarding. Snowboarding directly translates into my love of automobiles though. The fluid turns of someone riding through the powder at great speeds fascinates me just as those things do in automobiles. I have been told for years that as a child I used to take everything apart in order to decipher the inner workings of those objects. That same spirit still carries on with me today. It does not have to be cars or snowboards; anything that can be taken apart interests me. I want to know how everything works and in doing so I have learned a great deal about how to disassemble and reassemble most any object one might ask me to.
Due to my very curious mind, I have researched and/or studied many different things other than cars. I know a great deal about welding, woodworking, electrical systems, photography. Through high school I took classes pertaining to all of the above mentioned items, except for bicycles. I know how to weld all of the most common disciplines, including Mig, Arc, brazing and Oxy Acetylene. In each of those different types of welding I know how to do the following different types of welds: butt, lap, tee and pipe. I can also do all of those welds in many different positions including upside down. In the area of woodworking I am capable of using most any machine including: the table saw, radius arm saw, circle saw, planer, sanders, drills and biscuit joiners. Over the years I have also done various electrical works pertaining to installing outlets and switches. I am also very knowledgeable in the area of photography. I am capable of shooting a variety of subjects including cars, landscapes, and studio style shots. In the studio I am not limited to only inanimate or animate objects. Through my studies I have learned to take photos of both people and products.
I got to this point in life by way of much hard work. I was always expected to bring home a 3.0 grade point average or better. However, A’s were much more sought after. Throughout high school and in my beginning years of college I worked hard in order to learn as much as I could about all of the subjects I was able to. I enjoy accepting opportunities to learn about a new concept that may even be contrary to my beliefs. I believe that it is important to be able to look at problems from more than one angle, this keeps your views much more fair and less biased.
I have always believed that trust is one of the most important things you can give to someone else. Throughout high school I was never late to a single class. I am always reliable and stick to my word. I worked two different jobs during school, not at the same time mind you; during either of these jobs I was not late once. I also never called in for a fake illness. If a real illness was the case I always make sure to give the most time in advance I can. I am also very trustworthy with other’s belongings. I have borrowed many cars from people before; I have never crashed or damaged another person’s car or belonging. When someone trusts you with their object that was bought with their hard earned paycheck then one must take extreme responsibility in returning it in at least the same condition in which it was borrowed.
I am a very approachable person. I enjoy meeting new people and learning about different ways of life or different ways to go about a problem. I always make an honest attempt to meet someone before deciding whether or not I get along with a person.
